Privacy Policy

The short version

Bitters is a cocktail recipe app. We collect the minimum amount of data needed to make it work. We don't sell your data, we don't track you across the web, and we don't show you ads.

What we collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password. Your password is hashed and never stored in plain text. You can optionally add a profile handle, bio, location, and website to your creator profile.

Content you create

When you create recipes or collections, we store the content you provide — names, descriptions, instructions, ingredients, and any images you upload. Images are stored securely on Amazon S3.

Camera

The app can access your camera to photograph a recipe (like a cocktail menu or a page in a book) and import it. Camera access is only used when you explicitly choose to take or select a photo. We never access your camera in the background.

Push notifications

If you opt in to push notifications, we store a device token so we can send you notifications. You can turn these off at any time in your device settings.

How we use AI

Bitters uses AI in two specific ways:

  • Recipe parsing — When you photograph or paste a recipe, we send that text or image to Anthropic's Claude API to extract structured recipe data (ingredients, instructions, etc.).
  • Image generation — You can optionally generate a cocktail image for your recipe using OpenAI's image API. Only the recipe's name, description, ingredients, and glassware are sent to generate the image.

In both cases, only the recipe content is shared — never your account information. These services process the data to fulfill the request and do not use it to train their models.

Your content belongs to you

Recipes you create are yours. Collections you curate are yours. We don't claim any ownership over the content you create on Bitters. You can delete your recipes and collections at any time.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your personal information
  • We don't show ads or share data with advertisers
  • We don't use third-party analytics or tracking services
  • We don't track you across other apps or websites

Where your data lives

Bitters runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the United States. Your data is stored in AWS databases and file storage (S3).

Deleting your data

You can delete your account at any time. When you do, your account, recipes, collections, and uploaded images are permanently deleted. If you need help, email us at the address below.
